Social Sciences (IPS) is subject to study social life based on the
study material geography, economics, sociology, anthropology, and
history
of the state system (Department of Education 1994).
Teaching IPS serves to develop knowledge and skills base to see social reality faced by young people in everyday life.Subject IPS aims to make students able to develop basic knowledge and skills useful for him in everyday life. Teaching history intended that students are able to develop an
understanding of the development of society from the past to the
present, so that students have the Indonesian national pride and love of
the homeland.Teaching social studies scope covers issues of human life and society (wide or local). Teaching IPS examines matters of life of human beings, economic, social, cultural, legal, political, and even religious life.Based
on the above, the scope of Teaching IPS include: family, local
community, money, savings, taxes, the local economy, the province, the
archipelago, local government, the Republic of Indonesia, the
introduction of the world regions. The scope of social studies lessons that relate to the history
include: local history, kingdoms in Indonesia, characters and events,
historic buildings, Indonesia at the time of the Portuguese, Spanish,
Dutch and Japanese, and several important things at the time of
independence.
2.2. Achievement MotivationAchievement motivation is the desire or tendency of a person to do something well.Study level of achievement motivation in this study is limited to the
level of achievement motivation can be seen from the behavior of
students in general, among others, expectations for success, hard work,
worries will fail, and the desire to obtain a higher value (Panjaitan:
l997).
2.3. IPS Learning MethodsIn social studies lesson, the teacher can select and define the various methods that will be used. The
use of the method must be done properly by taking into account the
objectives, materials, peculiarities of teaching materials, state of the
facility / infrastructure, state of the student and others. The methods that can be used in teaching social studies, among others:
the assignment, experiments, projects, discussions, excursions, role
playing, documentation, frequently asked questions, exercises, lectures,
exhibitions, games, stories, and simulation.2.4. Method of "Mosaic"Thorndike (Sudjana: 1994) passed a law that gave birth to learn the basic principles that lead to learning technology, namely:(A) Legal Practice or repetition, which is more often a response to a
stimulus is repeated, then the matter will be remembered students;(B) Securities Law, namely that a response will be stronger when followed by a sense of joy or sense of difficulty.Implementation
of the learning process needs to pay attention to classroom management,
management and presentation of learning activities. That need attention in the learning process are:1. Classroom management, include: pay attention to a child's
development, management of the class, setting classrooms, students
arrangements, management tools, materials and learning resources.2. Management of learning activities and3. Presentation.Porter
(2000) explains that every person has a different learning modalities
depending on the learning style of visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Therefore, service learning every student needs different treatment. In
connection with the absorption of a person in learning, Baso (1999)
mentions that the study only to hear the absorption rate only reached
20%, learning to see the absorption rate of 30%, learning to see and
hear the absorption rate of 50%, to learn by seeing, hearing and
discussion absorption rate of 70%, and learn by seeing, hearing, discussion, reproduction and use the power absorbed can reach 90%. For more specifically we can see in Table 1.Table 1 Percentage of Absorption StudentAgainst LearningNo. How to Learn Absorption1 Learn just by hearing 20%2 Learning just to see 30%3 Learning to see and hear 50%4 Learning by seeing, hearing and discussion 70%5 Learning by seeing, hearing, discussion, reproduction and use 90%
The writer hopes of learning in the classroom may include all of the above. To achieve these objectives the authors attempted to integrate
multiple methods, so that the law of learning and prinsip¬prinsip
learning, learning modality and absorption can be performed optimally.Method
of "Mosaic" is a method that is integrated by the author of several
methods and learning approaches that are packed into a package of
learning methods are expected to present an active learning, creative,
effective, interesting, fun, attention to student learning modalities,
and have absorption high, so that students can enter a long-term memory (long term memory).Integrated methods include lectures, question and answer, discussion, quiz, assignments and exercises. This method combined with visual media and learning resources. This method is focused on the process of searching and finding himself
of the student and the occurrence of several repetitions with different
absorption include hearing, seeing, discussion and use.The author thinks that the method of "Mosaic" is a solution that can
meet the needs of a diverse student learning styles and can provide high
absorption in a study. The advantages of this method are:a) Presenting active learning, creative, effective, interesting, fun.b) It has a high absorption, so that students can enter a long memory (long term memory).c) many student-centered activities (student center), and the teacher is the facilitator.d) Taking into account the students' learning modalities either auditory, visual and kinesthetic.Method of "Mosaic" is .menarik when combined with a variety of visual media.
